Our Why

Life is shaped by connections providing  life with depth, purpose, and meaning. One of my earliest connections as a child was with my first real friend, Kevin, in grade school. During our short time together we developed a friendship and would play every day at recess.

Unfortunately, Kevin became ill with Cerebral Adrenoleukodystrophy (CALD) and had to move schools and eventually passed away too young at the age of 10. Kevin was the first true friend I ever had, and little did I know that our friendship would provide the blueprint for my life’s work.

In 2002, I enrolled at Bowling Green State University in the education program to earn a teaching degree. A challenging field experience at a local facility, coupled with other influences, led me to change my major to business. After completing my business degree at Bowling Green in 2006 and entering the workforce as an outside sales representative, I never found working in sales fulfilling.

One day, while working at a company, I noticed a man in a wheelchair who would wait for what seemed like hours, staring out the window, and I decided to strike up a conversation with him. During our conversation, he shared that it was his dream to eventually have a standing wheelchair so he could work as a cashier.

That conversation clarified my path: I needed to return to school and complete the special education degree I started at 19. The very next day, I enrolled. Since then, I have had the opportunity to be a difference-maker in the lives of children who need the most patience, compassion, and support.

As I take a chance and dive headfirst into Caring Connections, I cannot help but recognize how my friendship with Kevin is the catalyst for Caring Connections existence today. While short-lived, Kevin provided a friendship I will never forget.

I look forward to new relationships and challenges, and above all else, I hope I can leave the people I meet better off than when I found them.

Listen to your inner voice, follow your heart. Everything happens for a reason…

Your destiny will find you.
